I urge you to support California High Speed Rail to help relieve California's traffic and airport congestion. Expansion of our rail system will help reduce congestion, promote smart growth through economic revitalization of downtown areas, and spur economic growth through enhanced mobility. Powered by electricity, high speed rail can reduce dependence on foreign oil while producing no pollution.
I urge you to do whatever you can to support the many state legislators, government officials and ordinary Californians in favor of High Speed Rail. Please help make sure that the California High Speed Rail Authority is fully funded this year and that it remains on the November 2008 ballot.

The average California driver spends far too much time behind the wheel. Traffic congestion leads to decreased air quality. Cars, trucks and buses have become our country's biggest source of cancer-causing air pollution, spewing more than 12 billion pounds of toxic chemicals each year. Adding new lanes and building new roads only exacerbates the problem by making people more reliant on their cars, leading to even more sprawl.
Air travel is another source of both frustration and pollution that could be reduced by High Speed Rail. High Speed Rail is ideal for trips under 400 miles, and would provide an efficient environmentally friendly connection between Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, and cities in between. High-speed rail could reduce air traffic in our increasingly congested airports and air routes, as well as highways, and would be a cost effective alternative to constructing more airports and roads.
Unfortunately, Governor Schwarzenegger's recently proposed budget fails to provide the vital funding that the California High Speed Rail Authority needs to continue its work this year, and would essentially starve it. Equally alarming is the fact that the Governor also seeks to remove the bond proposal for High Speed Rail, which was scheduled for and then postponed both in 2004 and 2006, from the November 2008 ballot.
Rail travel in California and throughout the nation is experiencing significant growth. Californians, who are overwhelmingly in favor of High Speed Rail, deserve the right to finally vote on this vital project. I urge you to do whatever you can to support the many state legislators, government officials and ordinary Californians in favor of High Speed Rail. Please help make sure that the California High Speed Rail Authority is fully funded this year and the High Speed Rail bond remains on the November 2008 ballot.
Thank you.
